Afternoon Snack

We’re still basking in the glow of Halloween, Día de los Muertos, and that general fall feeling.

Beware the devil, lest he makest you a witch and teach you to surf:

After this weekend, the season of letting go is officially in full swing, so here is something we’re glad to say goodbye to: a very bad man.

We are sad to say goodbye to Deadspin, but in awe of their courage and solidarity. Katelyn Burns launched her new newsletter with a Deadspin elegy.

We also send off a beloved Latinx icon, Walter Mercado, who was a comforting and steady presence to so many of us.

In his words from this Remezcla interview with Mercado:

“I’m so into who I am, and I do [what] feels right for me,” he tells me in a phone interview. “I’m so connected to people and to the divine for that. That I look feminine with a cape? Everyone knows we have two energies – yin and yang – and I know how to balance them. If I have to be a warrior, then I’ll be that. If I have to be soft and subtle, I can be that, too. I broke the barriers. Boys wear blue and girls wear pink…Why? No, that’s in the past. Extreme gender conformity, machismo, and weak, submissive women, no, no, no, no. We are humans; people have the right to think whatever they want. I follow my own path, and I am who I am.”

Those who related to the content directly above: we need you throw money at this Kickstarter for POWER & MAGIC: The Queer Witch Comics Anthology, Volume 2! The book is jam-packed with faves and friends and simply delicious art and there’s less than a week to ensure it makes it into the world!

And now, for your closing seasonal trick…

…And your accompanying closing seasonal treat.
