Women Write About Comics featured Group Chat in their “Crowdfunding Comics Roundup”!! We absolutely adore this site so to be listed among other truly excellent crowdfunding campaigns is a real honor!
Speaking of Women Write About Comics, Jazmine Joyner has written a super in-depth, incredibly researched account of the known facts about the disaster that is/was Universal Fan Con. Whether an intentional scam or not, when events like Fan Con betray the trust of the community they are supposed to support, it has both immediate and downstream affects on that community. We’re grateful that Women Write About Comics is out there doing good work and shedding some light on what has been a super opaque debacle.
A District of Columbia judge has ruled that Trump’s attempt to shut down DACA is unlawful, and has ruled that not only but the government keep DACA, but they must also begin accepting new applications. This isn’t the first time a judge has ruled that DACA’s termination is unlawful, but it is the first time a judge has gone a step further and required that the government accept new applications. The Department of Homeland Security has 90 days to make its case to the courts, otherwise this ruling goes into affect. Hell fucking yeah.

This resonates with a lot of us here at POMEmag, as many of us have memories of playing with siblings or neighbors or friends and creating our own emerging narratives through that shared gameplay. On the POME Slack, we’ve been talking A LOT about Janelle Monaé’s new album, Dirty Computer, and about the absolute gift that Janelle Monaé is. The Rolling Stone has a good article about our goddess of pop androids that we’ve re-read so many times, where Monaé talks about her work, her self, and her growth. Also, if you haven’t watched the afro-futuristic film that accompanies the albums release (and stars Tessa Thompson!!!) just set some time out of your day to treat yourself. It’s so, so good.
