An Important Announcement from the POMEs

With a heavy heart, we here at POME HQ have a big announcement to share: after over 10 years of POME, we will be shutting down later this year.

We are so proud of everything POME has accomplished over the past decade, from the wonderful, thoughtful work on the POMEmag site to the beautiful and lovingly crafted comic anthologies we’ve published through POMEpress. While we’re sad to be closing up shop, we’re grateful for the opportunity to close things down at our own pace and say goodbye to this wonderful platform we’ve loved so much.

When we first started POME back in the fall of 2014, we were spry, energetic 20-somethings and we put all of our energy into achieving one dream: creating a space that made comics specifically for folks who might not think that the medium was a place they could fit into. We were lucky to meet some incredibly talented people who created blogs, short comics, podcasts, and more here on POME, all dedicated to carving out a part of the internet where one-of-a-kind comics could thrive.

But as some of y’all may have noticed, POME has slowed down a bit these days as we’ve pivoted to keeping this dream alive in new ways: focusing on print publishing, while continuing to create articles that celebrate comics we love, like our ongoing Romance Roundtable series. But as health, family, career, and other challenges have demanded more and more of our time in recent years, it has become more difficult to take on all the things needed to ensure the success of a scrappy, niche comics micropress and internet hangout spot. For this reason, we’re closing up shop and giving POME a meaningful goodbye as we work to wrap things up.

We’re still making some final decisions but we’ll keep y’all posted once we have dates for your last chance to check out stuff on the POMEmag site or grab stuff from the POMEpress shop. But for now, we just wanted to say thank you so much for following along with us for all of these years.

POMEmag is the internet’s premier pastel, macabre feminist dork publication. Or at least, a very pastel, macabre feminist dork publication that is leaning into that identity pretty hard.

Crones of the Year 2024

So much has changed in the ten years since we first began collecting and cataloging the great crones of our time, but much yet remains the same. Namely: our continued commitment to evil hag representation in media.
