A raven wearing a tattered Comrade Himbo muscle tee has just landed on your windowsill to let you know that there is News from the POMEcrones! POMEpress is transitioning from anthologies to single-author projects, and we are so excited to finally be sharing the details with y’all!
We want POMEpress to be a home for work that is weird and indulgent and artist-forward. And to that end, we have two books to announce for 2025-26!
For Sale (Not Haunted) by Mad Sparrow is the story of Jenny Heep, a handy community organizer trying to set up stock for her housing nonprofit, except oops! the house she’s renovating might definitely be haunted. A skeptic at the end of her rope, Jenny calls in the Ghost Slappers—a team of TV personality ghost hunters and debunkers—to prove to her community that this house is totally safe to live in! Hijinks, as you can imagine, ensue!
Mad Sparrow is an incredibly talented comics artist whom long-time POMEs may recognize from their work in Comrade Himbo. For updates on For Sale (Not Haunted), you can follow Mad on Bluesky and Instagram!
The Rosy Hours of Mazenderan by NQ is a prequel to Gaston Leroux’s The Phantom of the Opera, told from the perspective of The Persian. TRHoM is an historical fiction graphic novella set in 1800s Persia that explores the formation, deepening, and dissolution of the relationship between Erik and our protagonist—the Shah’s chief of police who is known only by his title: the Daroga. This book is beautiful and tender and so so affecting.
NQ has been working with POMEpress since the beginning. First appearing in Group Chat, and later in Going Steady and as a guest artist for the Comrade Himbo hunk-of-the-month calendar, it’s safe to say that we are just such huge fans! For more from NQ, you can head over to Tumblr!
We want to give a huge thank you to all of you reading this and to all of you who have supported us through our previous books. We are beyond excited about this new direction and so grateful to be moving forward with these books, in particular.
For the latest news, make sure you’re following POME on both Bluesky and Instagram!
