Pokemon Woodcuts

The new and vaguely British Pokemon game is upon us – and it has everything! Pokemon based on knights! Pokemon based on corgis!! Pokemon based on tea????? Like: a literal teapot??? What better way could we celebrate these fictional pocket monsters than by comparing them to ye olde terrifying monstrosities of antiquity? Behold: a bestiary of Pokemon woodcuts.

While I can’t be bothered to check and see if all the creatures above are actually in Pokemon Sword and Shield, this list should hopefully prepare you for all kinds of potential hazards in the wilds of the Galar region. Good luck catchin’ ‘em all out there — all of the Pokemon (but none of the Black Plague!)
