It’s 2017 and we’re definitely off to a start?? Of some sort??? Time is a mystery and so is this mortal plane, but at least we have things like comics criticism, The Young Pope, and prescient Buzzfeed quizzes to take. It’s Afternoon Snack, y’all!
Sarah Jeong postulates – Did Inadequate Women’s Healthcare Destroy Star Wars’ Old Republic? Did Padme have an OB-GYN? Would Anakin have killed all those younglings if he had felt there were sufficient medical options for saving Padme’s life? I GUESS WE’LL NEVER KNOW
Critical Chips is a collection of 10 essays from smart people about comics, and we already bought our copy!! POME favorite David Brothers has a piece about Tite Kubo’s Bleach and how to reconcile “worth” and we are stoked to read it. Good comics writing is always a blessing we as a species are in too short supply of.
You might know this about us but we love Mass Effect and we have been checking our various scrying tools for some sort of hint as to the exact date that Mass Effect: Andromeda will be released. WELL TURNS OUT IT’S MARCH 23 Y’ALL, WE’LL JUST BE OVER HERE SCREAMING FOR THE NEXT 2 MONTHS
If you are a fan of Telltale’s take on The Walking Dead series, then get ready to buckle in for a whole new season of making gut-wrenching choices about who gets murdered by zombies and who doesn’t in The Walking Dead: A New Frontier. This new 5 episode game follows some dude, ok yeah, but also everybody’s favorite young badass Clementine is also in it so really that’s all you need to know.
A Series of Unfortunate Events was a book series that means a lot to a lot of different people, but Scaachi Koul reminisces about it through the lens of her own eternal pessimism, and how those books taught her that maybe always expecting the worst wasn’t all that crazy.
It’s not even halfway through January and we already have the biggest design fail of the year.
Listen, everybody makes mistakes. But perhaps this is a sign that @WaPoExpress needs to hire more women in the art dept. ♀ pic.twitter.com/GDHYN5xuy7

A really diverse list of 20 comics to watch out for in 2017, written by a beloved critic of color (the woman behind Comics and Cola). There is nothing on this list that we are not stoked for.
With a start like this, I’m not really sure what to expect of the rest of 2017. Here’s hoping to more Young Pope memes and more post-existential Buzzfeed quizzes to distract me from my unending pessimism in the months to come.
