The schedule is as follows:

Anime Brunch Club #1: Magical Girl Brunch — SOLD OUT

Sunday, September 25th — 11:45AM

Facebook Event

Ticket Page

Description:
Welcome to very first meeting of Anime Brunch Club! Riding that post-International Sailor Moon Day high, we’re kicking off with arguably the most anime of all anime sub-genres: Magical Girls! Magical Girls are here to remind us that all women, no matter how ordinary, have an incredible inner strength and are capable of harnessing that power to save the world. There is a great depth of tradition surrounding the Magical Girl genre, and our selection of episodes really seeks to represent that breadth and to give some glimpse into the genre’s evolution over the past fifty years. So, prepare yourself for sparkles and frills and Protectors of Love and Justice, then come on down to check out our very carefully curated selection of only the most magical of girls.

Anime Brunch Club #2: Lady Knight Brunch

Sunday, October 2nd — 12:45PM

Facebook Event

Ticket Page

Description:
This week’s Anime Brunch Club is dedicated to Lady Knights — gallant, revolutionary warrior women who fight for the greater good and defend other ladies from nefarious forces. These lady knights in shining armor take to the battlefield (or the stage) to show us that whether you identify as male, female, both, or neither, there’s no right or wrong way to be a person in this world. Sharpen your swords of justice and join us at the Ritz for an afternoon of chivalrous heroes with valiant spirits.

Anime Brunch Club #3: Trash Boy Brunch

Sunday, October 9th — 1:30PM

Facebook Event

Ticket Page

Description:

What’s short and plain and awkward all over? A classic anime trash boy, of course! This edition of ABC explores the guilty pleasure of “harem” anime, an unfortunately-titled genre in which a seemingly unremarkable young man finds himself the object of obsessive affection of not one, not two, but several beautiful and talented women. The episodes we’ve chosen are full of the kind of sexual tension, physical comedy, and over-the-top misunderstandings that make this genre irrestible, almost despite ourselves. Cringe, laugh, and love with us as we explore the best garbage boys and the charming, if misguided, young women who love them.

Anime Brunch Club #4: Reverse Harem Brunch

Sunday, October 16th — 12:30 PM

Facebook Event

Ticket Page

Description:

Your lovely Anime Brunch Club hosts invite you to an enchanting afternoon of hunks falling deeply in love with ordinary Plain Jane women. For the uninitiated, “reverse harem” anime features love triangles (or dodecahedrons) with a girl at the most central point — usually a completely normal, non-glamorous lady with a kind heart who runs around fixing problems for her parcel of hotties until they fall for her sweetness and good-natured charm. So take a seat and enjoy a cute lunch with a side of Multidirectional True Love Feels.

Anime Brunch Club #5: Sports Animes Brunch

Sunday, October 23rd — 11:30 AM

Facebook Event

Ticket Page

Description:
Welcome back to Anime Brunch Club! This week is all about SPORTS — playing sports alone, playing sports with other people, Teamwork! Friendship! Heavily Erotic Subtext! We have put a good deal of thought into very carefully selecting the sports here represented (sports with balls and without), and all for your viewing pleasure. Again, we’ve placed a real emphasis on paying our respects to Anime History by placing some focus on the forerunners of the Sports Anime genre to provide a larger context for these episodes. So, if you like eating brunch and watching rivals turn into friends, come on down to the Alamo and check this out!

Anime Brunch Club #6: Non-Anime Animes Brunch

Sunday, October 30th — 1:15 PM

Facebook Event

Ticket Page

Description:
There has long been an exchange of ideas and styles between cartoonists and animators in the East and West. Much has been said about Disney’s influence on mid-century Japanese artists such as Tezuka, but we don’t hear as much about the ways that Japanese artists have influenced the rest of the world. As a tip of the hat to the brilliant Japanese creators whose work has impacted our lives and our aesthetics in a big way, this week we showcase Western cartoons that are influenced by the styles, themes, and tropes of a variety of anime genres.
